What’s your background?

Prior to ‘Living with Machines’ I was working towards a PhD at Royal College of Art, London in the Innovation Design Engineering department. My work there explored how interactive data visualisation can be used to make sense of digitised museum, library and archive collections. During my PhD I worked with a number of institutions including the V&A Museum, the Smithsonian, and Wellcome Library. You can find out more about these projects at oliviavane.co.uk.

Prior to my PhD, I received a BA Natural Sciences and MSci History and Philosophy of Science from the University of Cambridge and previously worked as a designer/developer in London.

In one sentence, what is your role on the project?

Research Software Engineer specialising in data visualisation design.

What excites you about the project?

Working closely with people from a whole range of backgrounds and areas of expertise.

What challenges do you see ahead?

That our ambitions will survive contact with the realities of the historical data.
