‘International Infrastructures for the Digital Humanities’

Our Principal Investigator Ruth Ahnert and Co-Investigator Mia Ridge were asked to speak on a panel on ‘International Infrastructures for the Digital Humanities‘ at the Building Digital Humanities Symposium in early November:

‘The key theme of this session is to look outward to the most ambitious global connections that can be made via digital humanities infrastructure development in different parts of the world. The panel will ask big picture questions about whether it is possible to and how to connect up activities, what the multi-national and collaborative approach could achieve, also what are the barriers, whether they be financial, technical, people related, data, language, regional, disciplinary, institutional, and other. The speakers represent large-scale projects and will present about the background to these, the need they fill, and research questions they point toward answering, to provide context and detail. The facilitated discussion will focus on key identified areas for development and collaboration for a more open and connected scholarly infrastructure ecosystem for humanities research.’

They presented with Toma Tasovac, Director, DARIAH-EU, Alexandra Petrulevich, Associate senior lecturer and Assistant Professor of Scandinavian Languages / PI of Nordic Spatial Humanities Project. Uppsala University, Langa Khumalo, Director, SADiLaR (South African Centre for Digital Language Resources), Juan Steyn, Director Operations and Project Manager, SADiLaR (South African Centre for Digital Language Resources) and session Chair Paul Arthur, Vice-Chancellor’s Professorial Research Fellow and Chair in Digital Humanities and Social Sciences, in the School of Arts and Humanities, Edith Cowan University.
